The challenges

Challenge 1: Transforming machine telemetry into actionable predictive maintenance

Customers continuously share operational data from their purchased machines, which is currently ingested and stored within Databricks. Although this wealth of raw machine signals exists, it is not yet systematically translated into specific, informed maintenance actions, creating a significant gap between data collection and proactive decision-making.

Your mission: Build a data pipeline that detects patterns associated with component wear and impending failure to generate prioritized, actionable maintenance recommendations. The solution must deliver predictive insights detailing exactly what to fix, when to schedule it, and why, backed by concrete evidence from the telemetry. By providing these proactive alerts as a service, customers can confidently order replacement parts and execute repairs during optimal planned windows, ultimately maximizing machine uptime and eliminating costly, reactive breakdowns.

Challenge 2: The Smart Service Agent: From IoT Signal to Checkout-Ready Quote

Epiroc supplies and services heavy mining and construction equipment worldwide, relying heavily on timely aftermarket support such as maintenance kits and spare parts. Currently, servicing these machines is a largely manual and reactive process where a technician notices an approaching service interval, initiating a slow chain of emails and phone calls between dealers and customers to manually assemble a quote. Although connected machines already broadcast real-time operating data and the digital dealer portal fully supports quote creation, the ecosystem currently lacks an intelligent orchestration layer to instantly act on machine signals before a breakdown occurs.

Your mission: Build an AI agent that listens for machine threshold events—such as running hours or IoT-generated wear alerts—to autonomously drive the end-to-end service quoting workflow. The solution must intelligently parse technical service manuals to assemble a draft quote using live stock and pricing data, and then actively coordinate approvals across a multi-stakeholder group including technicians, site managers, sales reps, and customer procurement. By replacing manual administrative overhead with automated, role-specific moderation, this solution drastically reduces quote cycle times and proactively delivers a finalized, checkout-ready cart to the customer, preventing costly machine downtime and reactive emergency repairs.

Challenge 3: Reinventing finance reporting – from data to decisions

Finance and business leaders rely on timely, trusted financial data to steer the company and its business. Today, however, finance reporting is still largely dependent on manual data gathering, fragmented tools, and un-augmented analysis, resulting in time consuming process for insight generation and potentially lower decision quality. Teams often struggle to gather structured, reliable datasets across systems, validate numbers efficiently and answer “why” questions without time‑consuming analysis. At the same time, business leaders lack an intuitive way to explore financial trends, depend on specialists for every new question and miss early signals on revenue, margin, and cost drivers.

Your mission: Design a streamlined, purpose-built analytics interface for finance reporting. Your task is to build a solution that allows finance users and business leaders to move directly from questions to actionable answers, without advanced technical expertise or manual data wrangling. The solution should replace manual analysis with an intuitive, guided experience, dramatically reducing time-to-insight and improving the speed and enriched quality of financial reporting.

The Technical Setup

Databricks will be the hackathon’s all-in-one launchpad: one workspace where teams can explore data, build models, test LLM-powered ideas, and ship working apps without getting tangled in infrastructure. For participants, this means less time wiring tools together and more time stress-testing solutions across predictive maintenance, financial insights, and agent-driven operations, turning the hackathon into a fast, focused proving ground for what modern data and AI can actually deliver.

The program

May 26 - Kick off

All teams come together to align and prepare. We'll walk you through everything you need to get started on the right foot.

The tracks — A closer look at what you'll be building and what a strong solution looks like.

How to succeed in a hackathon — Practical advice on team dynamics, fast decision-making, and how to submit your demo video.

Why join the learning sessions — What's on offer and how they help you build faster and arrive on the day better prepared.

We're running the Kick-off twice on the same day — so that as many people as possible can join from their different time zones. This seminar will be recorded.

Kick-Off 1

  • EMEA (CEST): 08:30 – 09:30

  • Asia Pacific (IST): 12:00 – 13:00

Kick-Off 2

  • South & North America (CDT): 09:00 – 10:00

  • EMEA (CEST): 16:00 – 17:00

  • Asia (IST): 19:30 – 20:30

May 28 - Learning session 1: Game-changing solution innovation workshop (2h)

We offer two exciting, interesting workshops that are optional to attend. You can join online or watch the recordings afterwards.

The first workshop guides your team through a series of focused questions: who the users are and what they're trying to achieve, why it matters for the business, which steps users inevitably go through to reach their goal, where the real friction and suboptimalities lie — and ultimately, whether there's a solution structure that could make those steps dramatically more effective.

By the end, your team has a sharp brief and a clear idea worth building — something with the potential to be a genuine game-changer.

We're running the same innovation workshop twice on the same day — so that as many people as possible can join from their different time zones. This seminar will be recorded.

June 1 - Learning session 2: Data model & workflows: Getting the logic right (2h)

Many projects fail because people aren’t talking about the same thing. If one person thinks “Completed” means a file is saved, but another thinks it means it has been sent, the system will break. This workshop is about making sure the team agrees on the "rules of the game" before they start building.

The session focuses on three simple goals:

Defining the Language: The team will agree on the basic building blocks—like a "Task," a "User," or a "Deadline"—so everyone uses the same vocabulary. No guessing, no confusion.

Mapping the Movement: We’ll plot the life cycle of the data. How does a process start? What exactly has to happen for it to move to the next step? We’ll draw the path from start to finish.

Building the Blueprint: We’ll turn these definitions into a solid technical foundation. Think of it as a shared map that tells the team (and the AI) exactly how the pieces fit together. We will also dedicate time to translating this blueprint into a practical solution architecture in Databricks—showing how an idea or data model becomes an implementable system.

By the end, the team will have a clear, functional plan. This ensures that the final solution works with logical precision and that no time is wasted on misunderstandings during the sprint.
