AI Online Hackathon
The Challenge: Build game-changing solutions with game-changing technology
June 8 Hack Day
June 10 Grand Finale & Award Ceremony
Welcome to Epiroc AI Online Hackathon
Join us for an inspiring hackathon filled with hands-on experience with game-changing tech, innovative solutions and networking. Explore what's possible to build with AI-assisted enterprise coding and other game-changing capabilities. Through workshops, labs and the hackathon, you'll get to push boundaries and test new approaches. It's about experimenting, discovering what works, and having fun while doing it.
We have prepared three ideas for you to work on — each one adding real business value to Epiroc, and each with the potential to become a true game-changer.

The Tracks
Track 1: Transforming Machine Telemetry into Actionable Predictive Maintenance
Customers continuously share operational data from their purchased machines, which is currently ingested and stored within Databricks. Although this wealth of raw machine signals exists, it is not yet systematically translated into specific, informed maintenance actions, creating a significant gap between data collection and proactive decision-making.
The Challenge: Build a data pipeline that detects patterns associated with component wear and impending failure to generate prioritized, actionable maintenance recommendations. The solution must deliver predictive insights detailing exactly what to fix, when to schedule it, and why, backed by concrete evidence from the telemetry. By providing these proactive alerts as a service, customers can confidently order replacement parts and execute repairs during optimal planned windows, ultimately maximizing machine uptime and eliminating costly, reactive breakdowns.
Track 2: Agent-Powered Customizable Workspace
Staff members currently lose valuable time to manual effort and context switching across multiple disjointed systems. While specialized AI agents operating on enterprise data in Databricks could automate these workflows, developing and deploying them remains a rigid, high-effort technical challenge. Furthermore, current software interfaces typically offer a generic, one-size-fits-all experience rather than adapting to a user's specific role and immediate daily objectives.
The Challenge: Build a dynamic workspace framework that pairs rapidly deployable, Databricks-connected AI agents with a highly configurable user interface. Participants must deliver a personalized frontend that automatically adapts to surface the exact tools and capabilities relevant to each user's specific role. By streamlining the creation of specialized agents and delivering a targeted, role-driven environment, this solution will directly boost staff productivity and seamlessly support evolving operational needs.
Track 3: Finance Analytics Interface
Controllers and business leaders depend on financial data to generate reports and drive strategic decisions. However, current workflows demand significant manual data gathering, which delays the surfacing of critical insights. Today, controllers struggle to efficiently access the structured data necessary for reliable reporting, while business leaders lack an accessible way to spot strategic trends without advanced technical expertise.
The Challenge: Build a streamlined, purpose-built analytics interface tailored for finance reporting use cases. Participants will develop a solution that allows users to rapidly validate and assemble data, directly transforming questions into actionable answers. By replacing ad hoc analysis with an intuitive system, this interface will empower teams to quickly uncover revenue patterns and cost-saving opportunities, drastically reducing time to insight and improving the overall quality and speed of financial reporting.
The Program
Inspiration Seminar: Epiroc AI Hackathon Overview (1h)
Join us for a one-hour session where we walk you through the full journey ahead — the goals, the program, the tracks, the technology, and how we'll work with AI-assisted enterprise coding.
A great opportunity to ask questions, get excited, and see why this might be one of the most rewarding things you do this year.
We're running the seminar twice on the same day — so that as many people as possible can join from their different time zones.
Kick Off
All teams come together to align and prepare. We'll walk you through everything you need to get started on the right foot.
The tracks — A closer look at what you'll be building and what a strong solution looks like.
How to succeed in a hackathon — Practical advice on team dynamics, fast decision-making, and how to submit your demo video.
Why join the learning sessions — What's on offer and how they help you build faster and arrive on the day better prepared.
Learning Sessions
We offer two exciting, interesting workshops that are optional to attend. You can join online or watch the recordings afterwards.
Learning Session 1: Game-Changing Solution Innovation Workshop (2h)
The workshop guides your team through a series of focused questions: who the users are and what they're trying to achieve, why it matters for the business, which steps users inevitably go through to reach their goal, where the real friction and suboptimalities lie — and ultimately, whether there's a solution structure that could make those steps dramatically more effective.
By the end, your team has a sharp brief and a clear idea worth building — something with the potential to be a genuine game-changer.
Learning Session 2: Data Model & Workflows: Getting the Logic Right (2h)
Many projects fail because people aren’t talking about the same thing. If one person thinks “Completed” means a file is saved, but another thinks it means it has been sent, the system will break. This workshop is about making sure the team agrees on the "rules of the game" before they start building.
The session focuses on three simple goals:
Defining the Language: The team will agree on the basic building blocks—like a "Task," a "User," or a "Deadline"—so everyone uses the same vocabulary. No guessing, no confusion.
Mapping the Movement: We’ll plot the life cycle of the data. How does a process start? What exactly has to happen for it to move to the next step? We’ll draw the path from start to finish.
Building the Blueprint: We’ll turn these definitions into a solid technical foundation. Think of it as a shared map that tells the team (and the AI) exactly how the pieces fit together.
By the end, the team will have a clear, functional plan. This ensures that the final solution works with logical precision and that no time is wasted on misunderstandings during the sprint.
June 8th 08:30 - 17:00 CET - Hackathon Day
A full day of collaborative development. We will have three different start times depending on where in the world you are.
Race 1 — South & North America (09:00–17:00 CDT)
Race 2 — EMEA (09:00–17:00 CEST)
Race 3 — Asia (09:00–17:00 IST)
June 10th, TIME CET - Grand Finale
The five best teams present to a jury of top executives. Each presentation emphasizes both the game-changing solution, technical achievement and learning outcomes.
Why Join?
There is no better way to grow both professionally and personally than through hackathons. Make new friends, get hands-on experience with game-changing software technologies — all in a creative, collaborative, and supportive setting.
Showcase Your Solution To Epiroc Executives
The jury consists of Epiroc Executives – all eager to see what you've built!
All Are Welcome
Everyone eager to learn and explore is welcome to apply! The hackathon is free of charge, but please get your manager's approval before applying.
This hackathon is all about sharing knowledge, sparking inspiration, and fostering a supportive community for all.
Teams
One of Epiroc's key goals with this hackathon is to bring people together across teams and functions — creating new connections and collaborations that wouldn't happen in everyday work. Teams of 4–5 will be assembled by the organizers, with time zones, skills and experiences in mind to create the best possible mix. Each team will also be assigned one of the three ideas to work on.
We promise you an unforgettable experience!
