Online AI Business Value Hackathon

Build An AI Powered Technical Translation Solution

September 8 Hack Day

September 10 Grand Finale & Team Presentations

Welcome to Alfa Laval Online AI Business Value Hackathon

Join us for a hackathon built around one clear goal: build game-changing solutions with game changing technology! In this hackathon we will build AI-powered solutions that deliver real business value — and go all the way to production.

All are welcome to join us! Everyone can make an impact here — no matter your role, background, or technical experience, this hackathon thrives on diverse competencies. We need your ideas, your domain expertise, and your perspective.

Through inspirational seminars, learning sessions and a full hack day, teams with a mix of skills and backgrounds will explore what's possible with AI and other game-changing capabilities. You'll get to push boundaries, test new approaches, and discover new ways of working. It's about experimenting, learning, and having fun while doing it.

The best teams present their solutions to Alfa Laval's Group Digital leads at the Grand Finale — and the strongest ideas move forward into real development.

The Challenge: Build An AI Powered Technical Translation Solution

Alfa Laval is investing in Generative AI to boost employee productivity and solve enterprise business challenges. The focus of this hackathon is contextual translation for technical documentation, such as user manuals and product leaflets for the Heat Exchangers business unit, which translates content from English into up to 40 languages.

Although Alfa Laval maintains a massive XML-based translation memory, existing term glossaries and technology lists are currently outdated and require significant manual housekeeping.

This challenge offers a great opportunity to learn how to work with and leverage AI in an enterprise setting.

Your mission: The overall goal is a Generative AI-powered translation infrastructure that leverages historical translation memory to extract updated glossaries, generate accurate terminology, and perform contextual technical translations. The translation capabilities should also be made available through an Alva-like user interface.

Each team takes on a viability concern: one specific thing that could keep this solution from reaching production. Your mission is to build whatever it takes to resolve your team's concern. Examples: proving translation quality matches or beats human translators, a user experience that needs zero training, visible and predictable translation costs, meeting compliance requirements, and glossaries that stay current without manual housekeeping. After the hackathon, the learnings from all teams combine into one production solution.

Showcase Your Solution To Alfa Laval's Group Digital Leads

The jury consists of decision makers and industry leads from Alfa Laval's Group Digital – all eager to see what you've built!
